Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Material Culture Consulting, Inc. is expanding our paleontological
department and is seeking Staff Paleontologists to support our
survey and monitoring projects throughout California.
JOB TYPE
On-call and part-time positions available with the possibility of
the position developing into a full-time position
On-call employees are free to accept or refuse hours assigned to
them each week

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Must have, at least, a bachelor's degree in paleontology, geology,
or related field
1+ year of demonstrated experience identifying and documenting
paleontological resources, and/or experience performing
paleontological field surveys, fossil salvage, and paleontological
construction monitoring within California
Demonstrated proficiency in recognizing various types of fossils,
in collection methods, and in other paleontological field
techniques
Good verbal and written communication skills, the ability to
closely follow instructions, attention to detail, organizational
skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
The ability to work independently or as part of a team
Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time and hike long
distances (4-6 miles/day)
Ability to perform field work in rough terrain, extreme
temperatures, and other adverse weather conditions
Must have a current valid driver's license and maintain auto
insurance in good standing
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primarily, the on-call and part-time paleontologists will conduct
construction monitoring but may be required to perform
paleontological surveys, fossil salvage, data collection, and
documentation of stratigraphic and fossil locality information, as
well as other tasks, as necessary
Field projects may require several weeks away from home at a
time
Detailed and accurate field data collection (including the ability
to collect using tablet computers and GPS units) with an emphasis
on documentation of paleontological locality data, environmental
conditions, and construction activities
Preparing, completing, and submitting daily progress reports in
accordance with Material Culture Consulting protocol
Communicating with Material Culture Consulting management in
accordance with Material Culture Consulting protocol
Adherence to ethical business practices, professional standards,
laws and regulations, and best practices.
