PATIENT POPULATION: The patient population served can be all
patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and
newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff,
physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public. POSITION
SUMMARY: "Under the general direction of the Director of Acute Care
and Nursing Excellence, the R.N. Clinical Manager independently
provides holistic, individualized care using the nursing process
for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced
level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills,
and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care.
Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills.
Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient
Care Services and the nursing profession in a positive manner.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborates with the Department
Director to provide 24-hour, 7-day/week management oversight of the
Departments and when assigned, will assume 24-hour, seven-day
responsibility, authority, and accountability in the absence of the
Unit Director. Will be responsible for ensuring the department and
all individuals in the department achieve the vision and clinical
expectations for the assessment, treatment, and care of patients as
appropriate to the ages of patients served. Demonstrates the
ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the
patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development, and
has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all
patient groups. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours
to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call.
Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community
disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated
disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need
pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§
3100, 3102) Your position has been defined as exempt (Exempt
employees are paid on a salary basis as their duties may include
more complex tasks that require them to work inconsistent or longer
hours on a weekly basis. Exempt salaried employees also may be
obligated to work as many hours as required to fulfill their

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have
evidence of leadership skills, successful interpersonal relations,

administration, and education. Three (3) years of clinical
experience required, two (2) of which must in area of specialty.
BSN required or in progress to be achieved within 18 months of
acceptance into the position. Must complete the Fundamentals of
Chemotherapy and Biotherapy classes within six (6) months of date
of hire. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if
required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as metric
system proportions and percentages if required. Ability to apply
common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To
perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic
computer skills. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS: To perform this job
successfully, an individual must have and maintain current
licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must
have and maintain current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and
PALS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to
hands-on patient care. A national certification in related field
identified within 90 days of hire. The national certification will
be identified and the time frame to complete the certification will
be approved by the respective VP within 90 days of accepting the
position. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: *Indicates
Essential Function 1 * Is responsible for the planning,
implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting of
administrative and management duties pertinent to the Department. 2
* Serves as a clinical resource person for staff, new orientees and
students during the shift. Maintains current knowledge of advance
clinical skills, and demonstrates knowledge of hospital and
departmental policies and procedures. 3 * Coordinates staffing and
maintains needs with the Director and/or the Staffing
Coordinator/Nursing Supervisor. Along with the department director,
maintains staffing levels to ensure patient safety while
considering budgetary guidelines. 4 * Directs and coordinates
patient admissions, transfers, and discharges with assistance from
Charge Nurses. Ensures appropriate communication with the receiving
units. 5 * Provides oversight for P.R.N. and “Float” nurses with
unit based staff. Ensures that float nurse(s) has appropriate
assignment and meets competency requirements for patient care. 6 *
Facilitates problem solving, promotes cooperative communication and
maintains appropriate documentation with all departments in a
timely manner. 7 * Acts as a Liaison for Director/Staff related to
customer/physicians complaints/problems. Assists staff/physician in
problem solving. Ensures resolution of problems and notification of
Director. 8 * When Code Blue/White or RRT occurs, ensures that
appropriate personnel, physicians and family/significant other are
notified. Coordinates essential staff functions and unit resources
during crisis situation. In the event of a death, ensures proper
paperwork is completed. 9 * Actively participates in achieving and
maintaining department compliance with all state, federal and third
party regulatory agency standards. Is accountable for maintaining
your department at “Survey Ready” status at all times. 10 *
Demonstrates continuous improvement in measures specific to your
department that benchmark the Organization’s performance against
national standards and result in maximum reimbursement to the
Organization. 11 * Creates, maintains, updates and revises
department policies and procedures utilizing Evidence-based
Practice via research. Reviews all policy and procedures at least
annually. LEADERSHIP: 1 * Assumes or supports charge nurse role and
makes patient care assignments as needed based on patient acuity,
staff qualifications and available resources. 2 * Reports Quality
or Risk Management issues through appropriate lines of authority,
i.e. Administrative or Clinical. 3 * Demonstrates
adaptability/flexibility in meeting unit needs. 4 * Represents
appropriate practice and directs others to follow or reference
hospital policies, procedures or standards of nursing care.
Regularly reviews all policies and procedures to ensure compliance
with all regulatory bodies. 5 * Models appropriate communication
and assists other staff in the identification of appropriate
communication channels and methods. 6 * Serves as a Clinical
Resource and provides direction in patient care when working with
all staff. 7.* Supports Collaborative Governance throughout the
Nursing Division. 8 * Mentors staff to achieve educational goals
e.g. National Certification and Advanced Degrees. Evaluates and
follows staff educational needs and develops or researches classes
to meet those needs. Assists staff in attending available classes.
Actively participates in development and implementation of Nursing
Division Competencies. 9 * Payroll practices: a. Follows Human
Resources policies and procedures. 10 * Proactive disciplinary
actions: a. Collaborates with Department Directors regarding
