POSITION PURPOSE: The Housing Specialist is responsible for development and delivery of a range of housing related services including assessment and evaluation using various housing needs tools and techniques; as well as assisting clients with securing emergency, transitional and/or permanent housing. The Housing Specialist assists clients set overall rehabilitation and housing goals, develop skills, identify barriers and make adjustments for housing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Develops and implements vocational services program at the program. Locates housing opportunities in defined areas of the County that comprise the housing continuum including emergency, short-term, transitional and permanent options. Provides assistance in skill development Collaborates with housing (HUD) specialists to help make a productive housing match for each client. Assists clients in successful housing placement by helping develop personal and community support networks. Works closely with program case managers to coordinate appropriate housing options for clients relative to functioning level and individual needs and preferences. Identifies and accesses county and community education and training, housing openings. Refers clients to housing discussion groups. Provides individual service referrals. Interviews clients to determine availability, and the need for further housing qualifications/needs. Updates team on a regular basis about housing alternatives and changes in availability, including keeping KETS and updated paperwork on changes. Educates and exposes clients to a wide range of housing needs and how to manage related problems. Work with community partners to ensure housing matches. Serves as liaison with professional members of the housing industry as well as homeless and housing providers. Provides input to other treatment team members to develop and improve program services and delivery with individual client services. Completes all charting and documentation as contractually required and in timely manner as dictated by program requirements. Displays regular and reliable attendance. Reports to and departs from work on time, as scheduled, and accurately reflects all time on time card. Successfully functions as a team member. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Aids in general management of center including running errands as assigned. Completes all assigned duties within the time frame and according to the standards as established by the Program Manager. Complies with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPPA standards. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending in-service training's and staff development programs, and seeking out supervision when needed. Demonstrates adequate care and responsibility for equipment. Reports and/or repairs missing or damaged equipment and supplies. Ensures facilities upkeep and safety by maintaining neat and clean work areas, by securing work area at close of business day, and by reporting vandalism, theft, or suspicion of drug abuse by coworkers to supervisor as soon as possible. Familiar with and understands Mental Health Systems, Inc. Personnel Policy manual and follows all established personnel policies. Follows administrative chain of command. MHS requires all employees to attain a minimum degree of training and knowledge in cultural competency, co-occurring and gender responsiveness and to routinely demonstrate these traits in every day work relationships. Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings. Participates in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and follows guidelines that promote workplace safety. Provides input towards policy and procedure design, revision, and deletion. Reads memos, directives, meeting minutes, and revised policies and procedures as posted. Other relevant duties as assigned. JOB RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: KNOWLEDGE OF : Job development techniques and an understanding of the housing first model. Housing search and related techniques. Private sector business and housing practices. Federal, State and County Laws, regulations and program guides related to housing, SSI benefits, and vocational rehabilitation; A.D.A. as it pertains to employment Procedure manuals and an ability to interpret these effectively to staff, family members and community providers. SKILLS: Bilingual, Spanish speaking if the position serves Spanish speaking population. Resourcefulness, initiative and the ability to work with minimal direction and supervision. Skills necessary to provide effective counseling, therapy and clinical services, and the ability to successfully work as a member of a treatment team. Utilizes logical problem-solving techniques both independently and in collaboration with workers in dealing with client needs. ABILITY TO : Provide effective case management services and the ability to successfully work as a member of a team. Create written documentation that is legible, clear, and concise. Maintain the distinction between therapeutic and social relationships. Maintain positive morale and unit cohesion as evidenced by maintaining a cooperative and flexible attitude toward coworkers, showing adaptability to change, exhibiting effective communication and interpersonal skills, and taking initiative to solve problems. Set priorities and reacts appropriately to emergency situations. EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation or other social services field. One year of experience providing employment/housing/case management services and one year of experience providing employment services to mentally ill individuals is preferred. One year experience providing housing-related social services to clients. Training in Supported Employment model and a Housing First model, or ability to incorporate prior learning and become educated in new model. Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 3 - 5 years
