Safety and Training Manager performs complex professional and
administrative work directing the safety and training program for
fixed-route transit services. This position is responsible for
implementation of training program consistent with contract,
corporate, federal, and state requirements. Ensures proper and
complete training is provided to all personnel including bus
operators, mechanics, fueler/washers, janitor, supervisor staff,
and other administrative staff. Provides general supervision and
guidance to training personnel. Provides strategic planning and
direction, manages contract compliance within area of
responsibility, and assists in development of and manages the
training budget. Annual Salary Range: $77,950 - $86,050
Qualifications:
- Proactively manages safety and training in accordance with the
Transdev Safety Policies and Procedures. Chair Safety and Accident
Review committees. Conducts monthly Safety Committee meetings.
Conduct Accident Review panels, as needed.
Implements Transdev's transportation
standardized training, modified only to accommodate contract or
state requirements. All such modifications to be pre-approved in
writing by general manager, regional safety director, and regional
vice president. Oversees classroom and designated instructors to
ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency in training methods.
Reviews all training and evaluation documentation for accuracy and
completeness.Administers and maintains workplace Injury and Illness
Prevention Plan. Ensures compliance with all applicable workplace
safety standards and regulations. Interacts with and observes all
employees in the performance of their duties to evaluate efficiency
of safety program and training. Performs documented facility safety
inspections at least monthly. Conducts documented follow-up of any
noted deficiencies with responsible manager.Performs duties
assigned under the Transit System Security and Emergency
Preparedness Plan.Conducts monthly safety meetings for all
operations, employees and staff. Maintains calendar of recurring
training requirements and schedules monthly meeting topics
accordingly. Coordinates with operations and maintenance managers
on education and training relative to safety trends and indicators.
Assists with hiring process, including applicant interviews,
assessments, and post-offer regulations.Assists maintenance manager
in ensuring compliance with environmental policies and
regulations.Oversees accident and incident reporting procedures.
Ensures reports are called into call center and/or faced to
corporate risk management as necessary per corporate accident
reporting policies. Responds to the scene of all critical
accidents/incidents. Reviews on-scene preliminary determination of
preventability and ensure written determination provided to
employee within 24 hours. Communicates with employee within five
(5) days of accident and every five (5) days thereafter, as
necessary, in situations in which information in unavailable to
make a final determination of preventability.Interacts with and
assists corporate risk management and third-party administrators in
managing fleet, general liability, and workers' compensation claims
and subrogation.Prepares and submit reports to client, regional and
corporate on a recurring and as needed basis, including, but not
limited to accident analysis, accident damage value, accident trend
tool, and FTA safety and security report.Performs road supervision
and dispatch duties on an as needed basis.Reviews, coaches, tracks
and identifies Lytx camera violations. Prepares actions plans to
address trends and customizes training needs for drivers. Performs
other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Education, Licensing, and
Certifications Required:
High school diploma required; college
degree preferred.Must possess a valid California Commercial
Driver's License with VTT and medical certificates or the ability
to obtain such within 30 days.Experience Required:
Must have at least two years
progressive transit experience with commercial class "B" vehicles
in a fixed route transit system.At least one year of transit
experience in a supervisory capacity.Must be a Transportation
Safety Institute (TSI) certified bus operator instructor.Possess a
working knowledge of adult education principles and
practices.Possess the skills necessary to write and express oneself
orally in a logical, comprehensive and intelligent manner, as well
as good organizational skills.Possess the temperament necessary for
maintaining amiable relations with various levels of company
personnel.Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel,
and Word.Must be able to pass an employment physical examination
(pre-employment or renewal), including a substance abuse
