Job Description:
Company: Nalu Bio is creating a new category of cannabinoids for
the wellness and pharmaceutical markets. - Nalu Bio has developed a
proprietary cannabinoid chemical synthesis platform that will set a
new industry standard for pure, consistent, and quality
cannabinoids. We have a world-class team highly experienced in
healthcare, chemistry, cannabinoids, consumer packaged goods, and
drug development.
The Role: Reporting to the CTO, this Technical Project Manager (PM)
will be responsible for leading a team of professionals in
successfully completing technical projects on cannabinoid chemistry
and industrial methods of production. All projects will support
Nalu Bio's business objectives of delivering high-quality,
ultra-pure cannabinoids into the retail and pharmaceutical markets.
The PM's duties include ensuring project timelines and milestones
are met, maintaining budgetary discipline across projects,
integrating technical insights across our partnership network into
a common knowledge-base, and advocating for additional resources
when necessary to achieve project objectives.
The Candidate: A successful PM candidate will have a Ph.D.,
preferably in the chemical sciences, with 4-5 years of experience
in commercial projects in chemistry-based businesses. The PM role
will support the development and enhancement of chemical processes
that provide the company with a competitive advantage in
cannabinoid markets. Processes developed will have lower cost of
manufacture (raw materials, conversion and capital),
environmentally sustainable manufacturing profiles (minimal waste)
and are safe to operate. This position mentors R&D Chemists and
Process Chemists across our partnership network. The ideal
candidate will have a passion for synthetic process chemistry
problem solving, project management capabilities, and who enjoys
both intellectual problem-solving in the design of synthetic routes
and the execution of these on bench to commercial scale.
Key Responsibilities and Primary Duties
Responsible for developing a project management capability within a
rapidly developing start-up environment
Responsible for managing multiple technical projects simultaneously
and contributing to successful market introduction of the company's
proprietary technology
Project manage the design and development of novel bioactive
molecules in alignment with project goals based on SAR analysis and
by applying medicinal principles
Understand goals & strategies of the project, proactively develop
innovative & practical chemistry
Propose optimized synthetic routes to target compounds, in
partnership with CROs and CDMOs
At the project level, efficiently manage the synthesis,
purification and characterization of small molecules
Analyze data, interpret and communicate results as part of an
internal multi-disciplinary team
Effectively manage chemistry CRO collaboration with a team of
external chemists
Develop and apply medicinal chemistry knowledge and skills
Keep abreast of recent scientific developments, patents and primary
literature
Prepare presentation materials and clearly communicate research
results at meetings
Participate in the development and writing of patent
applications
Experience, Education and Training Requirements
Ph.D. degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with a minimum of 4
years of post-doctoral or industry experience
Needs to be comfortable managing projects with both internal
resources as well as with a distributed network of external
partners
Experience in the life science and / or chemical industries is
preferred
Broad range of organic chemistry knowledge
Strong communication skills, work ethic, enthusiasm and
self-starter mentality
Creative problem solver in the face of synthesis and project
difficulties
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team
environment with rapidly changing priorities
Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
Highly goal-driven and detail-oriented
Commitment to continuous learning
Experience in managing CROs beneficial but not required
Start-up experience is a plus!
